Perfect travel monitor for MacBook Air M4
I’ve been using the Sotsu Elite with my MacBook Air M4, and I’m genuinely impressed. The display quality is excellent — sharp, bright, and perfectly calibrated for macOS. Despite being a 16-inch 4K screen, it’s surprisingly compact and lightweight, which makes it ideal for travel. The design is clean and premium, and it integrates seamlessly into my workflow. Highly recommended for anyone who wants a portable monitor without compromising on quality.
I was looking for an additional secondary monitor next to my Studio Display for correction work and palettes in graphic design and the Elite delivered that.
The finish of the hardware is excellent (in no way tacky like I feared from seeing some pictures). It is identical to that of the Apple monitor. My setup in portrait mode aligns perfectly in height side by side. Both displays have the desired high resolution for fine text.
Now with this setup a few other specs will not align as easily while working on both screens side by side. The recommended resolution on both displays is different (Elite 1200x1920 in portrait and SD 2560 x 1440 in landscape), so the content on the Elite gets smaller on the same physical height.
I have not yet found a colour profile yet that matches both displays. The Elite has a few settings and SOTSU recommends the free version of BetterDisplay software for further finetuning. Bearing in mind that the Elite does not have TrueTone adoption and is a bit dimmer with its 450 nits compared to the way thicker Studio Display and its 600 nits – it seams impossible to synchronise both displays exactly if you really want that. For now I settled on Apple RGB profile for the Elite but it still seams to emit more blue light and remains overall dimmer. I put brightness on the Elite on 75 of 100 as more light will overcast light colours.
I understand the Elite is optimised for mobile work in different environments and features a so called anti-reflective coating. I personally prefer a glossy screen with its popping colours and deep black. Considering taking it with me with as a secondary to my iPad Pro I probably would not use it to watch a movie as the matt surface ironically reflects to much light. Then I have not found a setup yet how to use the whole 16 inch for video, when hooked up to the iPad Pro.
It remains being an excellent piece of hardware design that works for my main use case as a secondary screen for reading and corrections and can easily being tugged away with its ultra slim low profile.
Great Design - Great Sreen - Great Connectivity!
I bought this screen for my desktop because, during my medical consultations, I don’t want to hide behind two monitors. With this mobile solution, the second screen can be set up and taken down quickly, and it’s visually very appealing with its Apple-style design.
On a desktop, connectivity works via the graphics card and a mini-HDMI-cable, plus USB-C for power. On a MacBook or notebook, it works only via one USB-C connection for both.
Great monitor, ultra portable, butI would like to get a larger display. Unfortunately you don’t build one. This is the reason of 4 stars instead of 5. Sorry
